Why when an auto dealer or apartment complex runs your credit report they won't let you look at

Do I not have a right to view my own credit history?

Before you buy a car or rent an apartment, you should obtain your credit score and credit report.

Some car dealers may try to tell you that you have a lower score than you really do. If you empower yourself with the knowledge of your credit report, their tricks wont%26#039; work.

You can obtain them as a free trial pay for it, but the tiny cost of a report (10-20 dollars) pails in comparison to years of high interest.

Cause they pay for it and they hate to let you see anything they pay for.

You do have a right to see it, if you apply and are denied for credit, you can write to the credit reporting agencies and let them know you were denied and want to know why.... they will send you a free copy of your credit report.

If you request credit and are either approved or denied you can write or call the issuing credit bureau within so many days and get a free copy of what was used to decide your credit worthiness. The company who runs your credit will be able to tell you who they used.

I don%26#039;t know about apartment complexes but auto dealers are not allowed by law to let customers view their credit reports.

This information is confidential and only the finance manager at the dealer is allowed to look at it.

They paid for the report. They get to decide.

If they turn you down due to bad credit you can request a free report from the reporting agencies.

You can also just request a free report from the reporting agencies. Just don%26#039;t sign up for that credit reporting service. Cost money for something you can get for free with just a little work on your part.

Sure, but they paid for that copy so they can do with it as they please. You can get a free copy online.annualcreditreport.com

I know it is illegal for them to GIVE you a copy of it. But I dont see the harm in letting you look at it while you are in the office.

As a loan officer, I can tell you about your credit report, give you the scores, talk about how many lates or judgements or liens show up, read you the %26quot;factors%26quot;, but I can%26#039;t provide a copy to you because of our contractual agreement with the credit bureaus. If you want that information, you have to get it yourself from them, so you can pay for it.

You have a right to obtain it from http://www.annualcreditreport.com (free) once per year or to pay the individual credit bureaus (unlimited number of times). The auto dealer or apartment complex does not have to show you their copy. You have to get your own copy directly from the source.

Auto dealers, etc, aren%26#039;t allowed by law to let you see your full credit report.
