How to get something off your credit report?

My husband got behind on something b/c work is slow in the winter for him. It went on his credit as being 2400.00 behind. We paid the whole amount off to the company with some of our tax refund but they told us they wouldn%26#039;t remove it and to dispute it through the credit bureau. I have never done this before, where do I start? I was going to write a letter and send a copy of the check when it goes through the bank. Where do I send it to? Thanks in advance

Unless it%26#039;s an error, you can%26#039;t get derogatory information removed. If you could, everyone would do it and all credit reports would all be clean and therefore worthless.

The report is not about just today%26#039;s finances, but about your payment pattern over the last 7 years.

If you paid it, there shouldn%26#039;t be anything to dispute. Unfortunately, negative items can stay on your report up to 7 years, paid or not. You may just have to bide the time...If it shows paid (the credit report should show %26#039;closed), then, although your credit score may be lower, it%26#039;s a good thing for you, because it shows you fufilled your obligations (albeit a little late). If you apply for a loan %26amp; the bank dings you for this, find another bank.

Everybody has bad cycle in life and creditors understand that. If you have payed your bills on time and maitained good credit history then that one time problem will not be a big deal. You just have to keep paying your bills an time and in full and your credit will recover. Just send the proof of payment to all three three credit bureaus by registered mail. It is the law that correct history be maintained so you have to wait 7 years for this account to drop off from your credit report.
