I've recently had an item on my credit report deleted, dating back from 1996.?

I recently had an old discover account deleted. I open it my freshman year of college in 1996 and I closed it in 1997. The balance went from 1,000 to 9,000 as of last month. Will that increase my credit score and how much would it affect the score.

For what I understand, your credit history, whether bad or good, stays for 10 years on your record. Anything after that will be deleted. Same applies with Bankruptcy. It stays for 10 years on your report.
