I have to dispute items on my credit report because the aganies combined my credit with my sister

I have disputed the claims with the three major agencies, ie. Equifax, etc. How much aggravation will it really take for me to get this straightened out? I am a little nervous that the credit bureau can make a mistake like this. What should I do now that the disputed have been filed?

I have to dispute items on my credit report because the aganies combined my credit with my sister%26#039;s credit.

Just to let you know, every reported transaction is going to take you about an hour on the phone. This is going to be a pain in the butt. You need to dispute the accounts, (which you%26#039;ve done) now the angencys are going to need to prove that is infact you. They will do this by matching your DOB and ss# as well as your last 3 previous addresses. If they don%26#039;t match yours the bill isn%26#039;t yours, and it will be taken off. It takes some time ( a couple of months) so be paitent. If it isn%26#039;t resolved in that time, you need to call each agency. Sorry but itentity mixups and theft are hard new.

The above is fairly accurate, except for the time line.

The law very clearly states that the Credit Reporting Agencies (CRA) has 30 days to resolve any disputes, or remove the negative item from your records.

If you haven%26#039;t done this already, do it now.....send a CERTIFIED letter to each of the CRA%26#039;s that are reporting inaccurate information on you. That way, you have proof that they were notified, and you can prove the date.

Remember, it%26#039;s THEIR responsibility to prove the debt is yours, not the other way around.

Don%26#039;t be afraid to threaten them with a lawsuit. If they post unvalidated information to your credit report, and know it%26#039;s not validated, you can sue them for $1000 in small claims court, plus costs and damages.

If those reports have an effect on your getting that mortgage (rejected, higher interest fees, etc...) you can also add defamation of character, plus any damages you suffered from their reporting.

So, send the dispute letter by certified mail today (if you haven%26#039;t done it yet) and give them their 30 days. If the reports are not cleaned up, file a small claim lawsuit.

I%26#039;m getting real good at harassing credit agencies. I%26#039;m working on a case now, settled with one agency and go to court soon on the creditor. If you need any further help email me.
