My bankruptcy was discharged should my credit report still show creditors on it?

Should the report show creditors or should it show bankrupt? Im confused. I did chapter 7 and it discharged in January.

My bankruptcy was discharged should my credit report still show creditors on it?

Understand that the credit report and the bankruptcy are two completely different things. Bankruptcy is controlled by the federal bankruptcy court and is usually not a problem. Credit reports are generated by various credit reporting agencies, of which three predominate -- Transunion, Experian and Equifax. You can get a free copy of your credit reports at www.annualcreditreport.com thanks to an act of Congress. The big three credit bureaus can%26#039;t even agree on what should be on your credit report and when you are dealing with something like bankruptcy (that they don%26#039;t understand very well), then they are bound to screw up even more.

Your credit report is undoubtedly erroneous. This isn%26#039;t the responsibility of your bankruptcy attorney. The bankruptcy attorney probably did everything right and got you a discharge from all your debts. Now you need to start the hard work of getting your credit report to read properly. Go to the Federal Trade Commission%26#039;s website and get all the information you need about how to begin to get your credit report to read properly. I%26#039;ve provided a couple of FTC sites below.

Good luck.

I%26#039;m pretty sure the accounts will remain on your credit report but should show as resolved not open balances. If you%26#039;re not sure wether the balances were discharged your best bet is to contact the individual creditor

I work for collections I know a little about bankruptcy. As far as I know when you fill for bankruptcy you have put all the creditors that you own money to. So then when the bankruptcy has discharged your attorney has to inform your creditors that you have filled what ever chapter. Sometimes you could do this yourself. Then when the creditors have been reported, on your credit history it will show the name of the bank, for example capital one and it will say bankruptcy. So to answer your question yes your credit history should show creditors and the creditors should show that you have filled bankruptcy. You could also ask your attorney for an accurate answer.
