If you pay them then they will have to remove them from your credit report. If you leave them they have to remove them after 7 years whether you paid them or not. If you really want to improve your credit, pay them in full if you can or just pay the ones you can afford. Every little bit helps.

its always better to pay them. try paying the newest ones first. but if they are closed, and in already sent to a collections agency, you should try to negotiate. always lowball an offer of 15-25% with a stipulation that they strike it immediately from your credit report and have them send you a written statement saying they will remove it from your credit report if you pay $X. if they tell you they cant, then just tell them you arent going to pay it, and see if they come around in a few days/weeks

But it happened to me before.

I didnt%26#039; even know I owe them money until 2 years after I closed my first acount. When I tried to open an account with the same bank again. The bank told me.

So, they refused to let me open their account again.

But 2 years later, I tried again and they let me open an account this time.
